Richard Harris is a dedicated leader with over 36 years of experience in community engagement and economic development. Following his retirement from U.S. Steel, where he served as an Employee Relations Supervisor, Richard has channeled his expertise into driving positive change in the Pratt community.
A UAB graduate with a B.S. in Business, Richard's commitment to community leadership is evident in his numerous voluntary roles. He is the Past President of the Forestdale Community Development Association and the Pratt Community, and he previously served as the Past President of the South Pratt Neighborhood Association. His involvement extends to the Birmingham Citizens Advisory Board and various leadership positions within Holy Family Church, including Past President of the Parish Council and Grand Knight for Council 272 of the Knights of Peter Claver.
Richard has actively contributed to local organizations and initiatives that promote community well-being. As a Board Member of the Forestdale Fire District and the BMC Princeton Advisory Board, as well as a member of the Passionist Lay Advisory Board and an advisor for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), he has consistently worked to elevate community needs.
In the field of education, Richard has made a significant impact as an Adult Education Instructor, leading the GED Preparation Program at Holy Family Church from 2008 to 2017. He also serves as the Site Coordinator for the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and chairs the Holy Family Church Social Justice Committee.
Through his leadership as the President of the South Pratt Neighborhood Association and his ongoing involvement in various local initiatives, Richard is deeply committed to enhancing quality of life in the Pratt community. As the founding member and current Chairman of the Board of Six Pratt Community and Economic Development Corporation, he continues to advocate for sustainable growth and prosperity within the community.
